Hello, My name is Carol Lawrence and I am the Director at Camano Lutheran Preschool.
I grew up not far from here in Marysville. I graduated from Marysville Pilchuck High School and then attended the University of Washington. I also attended Evangel University where I met my husband of almost 31 years. We live for about four years in Kansas before coming back to “God’s Country” the Pacific Northwest. After the birth of my oldest two children, my husband and I moved from Marysville to Stanwood. We love this area and have a deep connection to the community.
After my youngest daughter was born, my family moved to Camano Island. It was during that time that I made connections to the Camano Lutheran Church, Childcare and Preschool. My college pursuit was in the field of education and my genuine love for little children made the Preschool a perfect fit. I began teaching the Kindergarten class in 2002 and loved sharing the joy of learning with many different children for 7 years. In 2009 I moved from my teaching position to the Directorship and have worked with several wonderful teachers in building a strong program here at Camano Lutheran Preschool.
It is my goal to help provide the best early childhood educational experience around. I want every child to be successful and to reach their full potential. Every child that walks through our doors is a gift from God. Each little learner is filled with wonderful potential that only needs direction and guidance. Through the use of a multitude of mediums we strive to teach, grow and encourage many little minds.
Hi, my name is Tonya Malaby. I have been teaching at Camano Lutheran Preschool since 2006. I taught the four/five class for three years and have been teaching the Kindergarten program for the past six years.
I am enjoying my new role as the Education Specialist at Camano Lutheran Preschool. I work with the children one on one or in small groups to improve on their pre-reading & reading skills as well as any other area of learning they might need extra help with. I use many different mediums and methods to help each child to best absorb and retain the material.
I was raised in a very small farming community in Eastern Washington. I decided after high school graduation to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become an elementary school teacher. I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education from Eastern Washington University with a double major in Elementary Reading and Mathematics. After graduating, I became employed with the Central Valley School District in Spokane for two years. My husband and I then moved to Idaho where I taught for another two years at Kellogg Middle School. This was a huge professional change for me! But I loved the challenge!
My husband and I moved to Camano Island in 2001. For the next five years I was blessed with the opportunity to stay at home and be a mom to my two wonderful boys, Ben and Brian. When my boys reached school age, it was time for me to go back to teaching and Camano Lutheran Preschool was the perfect fit!
These days, my free time consists of driving my boys to all their extra-curricular activities, trying to keep up with the never ending piles of laundry, and the challenge of feeding two always hungry teenage boys! And I love every minute of it!
Hi, my name is Mary Westerman and I would like to tell you a little about myself and my family.
I have been married to my husband, Gary, for over 30 years. He is employed by Snohomish County Fire Dist. 1. We have 3 children: Amber, Corey and Tyler. Amber is married to Jason Kintner and they have a son (Jackson) and twins (Mia and Mason), Corey is married to Lori (Shackley) and they have a daughter (Aliyah) and I absolutely love being a Grandma. Tyler enjoys just being with friends. We have lived in Stanwood for over 27 years. Our family attends Camano Lutheran Church. All of our children have attended Camano Lutheran Preschool and that is how I came to be a teacher here. I have been employed at Camano Lutheran Preschool for over 19 years.
I Graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, and have lived in Everett all my life until I married. I attended Everett Community College taking business classes, then became employed by Cascade Savings and Loan in Everett and stopped attending ECC. I have later returned when I began my employment at Camano Lutheran Preschool taking Early Childhood Education classes.
I was appointed Director of Camano Lutheran Preschool in 2001 and ended that position in 2009. I thoroughly enjoy both jobs and hope to continue for many more years as a teacher.
Some of my interests are gardening, hiking, biking, jewelry making and stamping (I sell stamps for a company called “Close to my Heart” and really enjoy it).
Hello, My name is Sarah Tift and I am teach the threes class. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I grew up in Marysville and graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School. I attended and graduated from Gene Juarez Academy of Beauty and worked in a salon while attending Everett Community College. I fell in love with retail and worked at Lamonts and the The Bon until my daughter Paige was born. I was able to stay home with my children for 12 years. When my youngest, Grace, went to school full time I figured what better way to spend my days . . . with kids. I enjoy their eagerness to learn and all the unique personalities, it always makes for interesting days!
My husband, David, and I have 3 girls. Payton our oldest attends Central Washington University. Go Wildcats! Paige is a 7th grader at Stanwood Middle School and Grace our youngest in a 2nd grader at Cedarhome Elementary School. Last is Libby, she is our Golden Retriever and often needs reminding that she is a dog! Beyond school and work we spend a lot of time at the studio. My two youngest girls are competitive dancers. So, between classes, conventions and competitions, it adds up to our world revolving around dance! We wouldn’t have it any other way! I also love to sew. I can usually be found at school, the studio or locked away in my sewing room!
My husband and I moved to Stanwood 9 years ago from Lewiston, ID. We lived in Bothell for a while before moving to Marysville and then to Stanwood. We have made the Stanwood community our home and we love it here! Go Spartans! We attend Stanwood Foursquare Church and are blessed to be a part of a wonderful church family.

My husband works in sales and marketing and loves what he does.
Some of my interests are reading, spending time with my kids and family, gardening, traveling, and candles.
My name is Amber Kintner and I am excited to be joining Camano Lutheran Preschool as a teacher. I have worked as a teacher in the Stanwood Camano School District for the past several years. My experience includes teaching kindergarten through third grade as well as working as a substitute. I am excited to bring my experience to the preschool level and to help provide a quality educational environment that will prepare our preschoolers for the transition to full time kindergarten. I myself am a product of Camano Lutheran Preschool and Stanwood Camano School District and am excited that my own children are getting the opportunities that both have to offer as well.
